Exploring the Paseo del Bosque Bike Trail – Albuquerque’s Hidden Gem

Writer: Daily SpokesDaily Spokes

Today, we’re taking a deep dive into the Paseo del Bosque Bike Trail in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In my opinion, this is one of the best trails in the city, and I’m excited to share some hidden gems that many people miss along the way. Whether you’re a cyclist, runner, or rollerblader, this trail has something for everyone!

Trail Overview

From Alameda Blvd. down to I-40, the Paseo del Bosque Bike Trail stretches a little over 7 miles on a smooth asphalt path. It’s a well-loved route, attracting a diverse crowd—including joggers, skaters, cyclists, and even Class 2 e-bikes (yes, they’re allowed here!).

If you’re looking for a shortcut, there’s a great alternate entrance that provides direct access. Once you pass under Montano, you’ll need to loop back, but there’s a well-marked main entrance with signage to guide you.

Trail Access & Scenic Stops

Aldo Trailhead – You can park off Montano & Coors at the Paseo Montano Picnic Area. From there, just cross the bridge, and boom—you’re on the trail.

Singletrack & Nature Views – A major highlight of Paseo del Bosque is the singletrack trails that run alongside the river. In winter, it might not seem like much, but when the foliage is in full bloom, you’ll be riding through lush tree tunnels, spotting wildlife, and enjoying some truly scenic views. If you’re into photography, bring your camera—you won’t regret it!

Rio Grande Nature Center – Right off the trail, this preserve center offers free entry and has a cool museum-like vibe. It features large viewing windows where you can observe wildlife, making it a great stop to take in the beauty of the Rio Grande.

A Must-Visit Stop: Bike In Coffee

Just past I-40, you’ll find Bike In Coffee, a must-visit destination for cyclists and visitors alike. This spot has it all. Enjoy live entertainment, a gourmet chef, amazing coffee, and a beautiful farm setting near Old Town. It’s a fantastic place to refuel, relax, and soak in the Albuquerque biking culture.
