Salsa Moraine Review - First Impressions
I'm beyond stoked to review the Salsa Moraine. This is actually my personal bike, so I might be a little biased! That said, I'll give you a thorough breakdown as quickly as possible because I value your time. Let’s jump in!
Build & Components
The Moraine is a 29er with WTB i30 rims and burly Teravail tires—2.5" Warwick in the back and 2.6" Kessel up front. It features a 200mm rotor both front and rear, paired with Shimano four-piston hydraulic disc brakes for phenomenal stopping power. Suspension-wise, it boasts a Fox Float X Performance shock with 145mm of rear travel and a RockShox Psylo Gold RC fork with 160mm travel, making it incredibly versatile on the trails.
E-Bike System
This Class 1 e-bike has three levels of pedal assistance, indicated by different color lights—green (low), blue (medium), and pinkish-purple (high). The Fazua Ride 60 motor delivers 450W of peak power and 60Nm of torque, which is more than enough to crush steep climbs and keep the ride playful.
One of the coolest things? The sleek design. There’s no bulky display, just a discreet thumb switch and a light in the frame to indicate assistance level. It blends in so well that most people mistake it for a traditional full-suspension MTB, which I love!
Ride Performance
This bike absolutely rips. Whether climbing or bombing downhill, it delivers a balanced, playful feel. It’s light enough to be nimble but still has the stability to take on gnarly jumps and technical sections. It truly feels like a jack-of-all-trades e-MTB.
Drivetrain & Components
Shimano Deore 6100 drivetrain (1x12, 10-51T cassette)
Race Face Chester 35 handlebars (780mm wide)
Salsa Guide stem (40mm clamp)
WTB lock-on grips
TransX dropper post – This high-end version offers a smooth, powerful return, reminiscent of Fox’s top-tier droppers.
Ergon saddle – A personal favorite, I use it on all my bikes.
Extra Features
Salsa designed this bike with plenty of storage solutions, including barnacle mounts and a hidden frame strap slot for carrying tools or tubes. The integrated USB port lets you charge devices on the go. And yes, the wheels and tires are tubeless-ready, and Salsa even provides sealant and a tubeless kit!
Battery & Range
The battery offers up to 40 miles of range, and from my testing, that’s pretty accurate. Even after 20 miles of riding at high assist, I still had three out of five bars left.
Pricing & Availability
Salsa is currently running a sale on the Moraine, with the lower-end model priced at $3,499, a killer deal for such a high-quality e-MTB. Salsa has a strong reputation for durable, well-designed bikes, and this model lives up to that standard.
Final Thoughts
This bike is an absolute beast. Whether you're hitting the bike park, exploring trails, commuting, or just having fun, it does it all. If you’re in the market for a capable and sleek e-MTB, the Salsa Moraine is worth considering.
